Welcome to British Flair and Country Fair at Schloss Merode
Come and discover the British way of life at Schloss Merode!
British Flair and Country Fair will be celebrating British culture for three days in 2019 from 26 to 28 April in the idyllic rural setting of Schloss Merode in Langerwehe-Merode between Cologne and Aachen (Aix-la-Chapelle).
There will be open-air shopping, classic cars, charity fundraising plus a typical British programme of events, sport and culture. Dating originally from the 12th century, Schloss Merode is held to be one of the loveliest moated castles in the Rhineland and is perfectly suited to the innovative British Flair and Country Fair idea. Built in the Flemish Renaissance style, the castle is situated in the Merode district of Langerwehe in North Rhine-Westphalia, at the northern boundary of the Rur Eifel – in the heart of the Meuse-Rhine Euregion. The castle is privately owned by Prince Charles-Louis de Merode and his family.
British Flair and Country Fair will have plenty to offer every enthusiast of British and country life: The many retail stands promise fine open-air shopping, with typically British high-quality products such as wax jackets and hats, accessories and mouth-watering delicacies. The range is complemented by the quality merchandise you would expect at a typical British country fair, such as fashion, natural products and accessories for the home and garden.
Lots of show highlights!
The high point of the British Flair and Country Fair at Schloss Merode is the classic car show. Classic car fans are in for a treat. The sweet purr of their engines, chatting to their owners and the legends surrounding the different models take centre stage in the classic car show. But of course the varied show programme will invite visitors to explore other aspects of the British way of life.
Among the many attractions are Scottish highland games, sheepdog and falconry displays, wellie flinging, comic street theatre from Covent Garden in London, Irish folk music and a pipe band. Paddington Bear, with his amusing stories for children, will be there too, of course.
British Flair and Country Fair would not be complete if it did not raise money for charity. The “Teddy Bear Campaign” takes the form of a charity auction. The proceeds will go to charitable organisations or children’s hospitals in Langerwehe. On Sunday the many prizes donated by standholders will be sold to the highest bidder. Going once, going twice, sold! Join in and help a good cause!
